Assessment under the Pearson Edexcel specification comprises externally set examinations that include both written and spoken examinations:

  • IAS Unit 1: Spoken Expression & Response — externally assessed speaking exam covering core topics and spontaneous discussion tasks.
  • IAS Unit 2: Understanding and Written Response — written exam assessing listening, reading, grammar and writing skills.
  • IAL Unit 3: Understanding & Spoken Response — advanced spoken exam with thematic discussion and debate.
  • IAL Unit 4: Research, Understanding & Written Response — written exam covering culture, literature/film and topical issues.
Exams are typically taken online through Lifelong Learning College, as we are an approved exams centre. If preferred, learners may choose to sit exams in person at an external centre — speak to an advisor about your options.
