Course duration

This A Level Art course is designed to be completed in approximately 360 guided learning hours, with up to 24 months to finish if you choose, and the option to fast-track if you want to complete sooner.

Course outcome

On successful completion, you will earn an A Level Art qualification, recognised by UK universities and employers as a recognised Level 3 academic qualification. Universities typically require multiple A Levels for entry.

Entry requirements

Although a GCSE/IGCSE in Art or Photography is recommended, mature learners without formal qualifications can apply based on experience, a creative portfolio, or demonstrated artistic ability. Support is provided to help returning learners settle into study.

Assessment

Assessment is portfolio-based and includes submission of coursework and project work overseen within the online platform. Learners develop a substantial creative portfolio that demonstrates conceptual development, technical ability and individual expression. In many traditional A Level art specifications there is also an externally set, timed project; LLC can provide guidance and support for online submission as required.

This A Level Art course guides you through all stages of artistic development — from foundational skills to advanced creative practice. You will explore visual media, refine technical techniques and build a portfolio of work that expresses your own artistic voice. The course blends creativity with critical thinking and reflective practice, helping you grow personally and artistically.

  • Visual elements and techniques: drawing, painting, composition, colour, form and media exploration
  • Creative investigation: developing themes, research and idea generation
  • Personal portfolio development: producing artwork in a range of media and styles
  • Critical reflection: evaluating your own work and responding to artistic contexts, history and theory
  • Project work: extended pieces culminating in a portfolio or final body of work suitable for assessment and progression
  • Art practice and process: experimentation with materials, techniques and conceptual approaches to foster your creative identity
  • This A Level Art qualification is primarily coursework and portfolio-based, with major components reflecting your skills, creativity and contextual understanding.
  • Where an externally set task or timed assignment is required, LLC will support learners through preparation and submission.
  • Assessments are designed to be completed online, leveraging digital submissions for portfolio work and project documentation — speak to an advisor about available options.
  • If your pathway requires any in-person assessment components (such as a practical exam or submission deadline at a centre), an advisor can help guide you through the options. Typically you will sit a 15 hour exam, over 3 days, with your booked exam centre.

You have up to 24 months to complete the A Level, allowing study around work, family and other commitments. A fast-track route is available if you aim to complete sooner.

This course is delivered 100% online via structured lessons, video tutorials, creative prompts and guided assignments.
